I use the white board method of keeping track of car stuff too. Since I don't get much time to work on it lately.
Another trick along the same lines is put a couple strips of blue tape on the windshield right in line of sight with the driver so you can't miss it. I use a sharpie and write a checklist... for things like 'lugs not tightened' or 'swaybar unbolted' that after 10 months would probably be forgotten and end up making a huge mess at the very least when you go to do something with the car.
